Join us every month this winter to ride under the full moon and explore our favorite local trails and beaches by fat bike.
This year we’ll be exploring South County’s trails and beaches- including Narragansett, Moonstone & East Matunuck- as well as hooking up with local businesses acting as ride HQ. Just like in past years these rides will roll at a social pace and typically take approx. 1.5 hours.
To top it all off these rides are free and all are welcome to join. Over the years riders have donated thousands of pounds of non-perishable food and countless warm clothes to local charities. Help us help others by participating in this great event.
What time is the ride?
The ride will LEAVE Whaler’s at 7pm. Please arrive about 15 minutes early (30 minutes if borrowing a bike) to ensure we stick to our timeline.
Do I need a fat bike?
Usually yes- but not necessarily for this particular ride. Instead, due to the location we’ll be riding on several different types of terrain including pavement, hard-packed dirt, loose mud & sand that don’t require a fat bike. With that in mind the minimum required tire width is a knobby 2″ with an recommended/ideal width of 2.25″-5″.
Where does the ride go?
This will be your opportunity to experience some of our favorite local trails (and a few secret ones) right in our backyard. Most of the riding will be accessible from the bike path or just beyond.
What should I bring?Aside from the non-perishable food items mentioned earlier, all riders are required to bring a helmet, lights, warm/weather-appropriate clothing and footware that you don’t mind getting dirty.
What if I reserved a fat bike or light?
Please arrive approx. 30 minutes early and check in with Stedman’s staff just inside the entrance to Whaler’s. We have a limited number of Light & Motion lights that will be distributed on a first come/first served basis. Each demo bike will have the rider’s name on a sticker on the top tube; please locate your bike and we’ll adjust the seat height before letting you roll around a bit to get familiar.
What does it cost?
This ride is free with the donation of canned goods and non-perishable food items for local charities. We ask all riders to contribute and help those less-fortunate in the community.
We love a good time just as much as we love to ride- stick around for the after-party at Whaler’s and your first round will be on the shop!
Big thanks to Light & Motion for sponsoring this series- lights available upon request.
Don’t have a fat bike? We have limited demos available on a first come, first serve basis. Reservations are required as these rides fill up fast and regularly have waiting lists. We reserve the right to prioritize first-time participants for demo bikes over those who have ridden previously.
