Frame and fork are all aluminum. The labelled size is 44cm, but features a 40cm center-to-top seat tube and a 485mm horizontal top tube measurement. Expect it to fit riders from 4’4″ to 5′. Crankarm length is 160mm. Short reach Microshift shifter/brake levers help smaller hands control the Shimano 2×8 drivetrain and Tektro calipers.

The test rider shown is a 4’6″ ten-year-old who found it very comfortable and easy to control.

Kids love riding bikes, but are typically burdened with heavy knobby tired mountain bikes. The Allez 650 gives them the low rolling resistance and efficient pedaling posture of an adult road bike allowing them to zoom along for miles with much less effort. Family bike tours, kids’ races, or just getting to school easier are all the domain of the Allez. You may even find yourself the one trying to keep up!

The fine print:

Group rides meet every Saturday morning at 7:30 on the sidewalk outside the shop, with wheels typically rolling just before 7:40. Ride length ranges from 28 – 40 miles with the longer rides occurring during the summer when my fitness tends to be marginally better… Even the longest rides tend to get everyone back to the shop by 10:30.

These rides are of the “no rider left behind” variety. We have had a great, supportive bunch of folks riding together this year. The group begins together and may split into two groups, as necessary, based on rider fitness level. A typical Saturday morning has seen about a dozen or so riders, so if the group does split, there are still two nicely-sized bunches with whom to ride.

Saturday Group Road Rides

A bit brisk this Saturday morning, but a beautiful day for a ride nonetheless. The group got a 30-mile spin in and still made it home in time for breakfast (. A good pace and good conversation led to a good time had by all. The route today took us up to URI, out to Exeter and Richmond and back to the shop by way of Worden’s Pond and Tuckertown.

Rides will continue year-round, weather-permitting. Steady rain will cancel, as will (most likely) temperatures below 20 degrees. I will try to post planned routes by Friday each week.
