Monday at the Mist: Full Moon Fat Bike Beach Ride Route, Details and More

Looking for a one-of-a-kind way to experience the biggest Super Moon since 1948? Join us Monday the 14th at 630pm at the Ocean Mist for a fat bike ride on Roy Carpenter’s, Moonstone and East Matunuck Beaches. This event is free (with donated canned goods) and welcome to all with a fat bike.

What time is the ride?
The ride LEAVES the Ocean Mist at 630pm. Please arrive by 615pm (6pm if borrowing a bike) to ensure we stick to our timeline.

Do I need a fat bike?
Yes. We will be riding on several different types of terrain including loose sand, rocks, trail and dirt roads. The minimum required tire width is a knobby 3″ with an recommended/ideal width of 4″-5″.

Where does the ride go?
We’ll roll out from the parking lot next door to Ocean Mist at 630pm and proceed west on Roy Carpenter’s Beach. The ride will loop around by Card’s Pond and roll back to the east (past the Ocean Mist) to East Matunuck Beach and up Succotash Road towards Point Judith Pond. After a quick loop we’ll head back towards the Mist on East Matunuck with a few small detours as time allows.

What does it cost?
This ride is free with the donation of canned goods and non-perishable food items for local charities. We ask all riders to contribute and help those less fortunate in the community.

What if I reserved a fat bike or light?
Please arrive at the Ocean Mist by 6pm and check in with Stedman’s Staff. We have a limited number of Light & Motion lights that will be distributed on a first come first served basis. Each demo bike will have the rider’s name on a sticker on the top tube; please locate your bike and we’ll adjust the seat height before letting you roll around a bit to get familiar with your new steed.

What should I bring?
Aside from the non-perishable food items mentioned earlier, all riders are required to bring a helmet, weather-appropriate clothing that you don’t mind getting a little dirty and a light.

What else?
Stick around for the after-party at the Mist, including food and drink specials and bingo at 8pm. Even if you can’t make the ride, come join us and support your local businesses (21+).

Fall Training Wraps Up Thursday 10/27: Intro to Winter Riding

Just because it’s cold doesn’t mean the riding season is over. On the contrary, look at it as an opportunity; an opportunity to literally see the world differently, ride otherwise accessible locations and- in many cases- have your surroundings all to yourself.

In this final workshop of Fall ’16 we’ll discuss dressing for winter temps and conditions, cover equipment options including studded tires and pogies/Bar Mitts and go over the different types of fat bikes most appropriate for the local area.

Class starts at 7pm and is free to anybody interested in getting the most out of their riding experience. Each week we raffle off a $25 Stedman’s Gift Card and every class you attend enters you in our grand prize drawing for a $75 Stedman’s Gift Card (drawn 10/27).

October Full Moon Beach Ride: Fattening up at Scarborough

Join us Saturday October 15th at 7pm to kick off another season of full moon beach rides on fat bikes. This month we’ll ride Scarborough Beach and explore nearby trails.

Scarborough is a great spot; the sand is firm and stable and the scenery is beautiful. This October we’ll ride the entire length of the beach plus take a detour through the trails to the north before returning to south pavilion for post-ride refreshments.

Please note: For the first time the FMBR will NOT meet shop. Instead we will meet at the pavilion in the southern-most corner of the Scarborough Beach parking lot.

Don’t have a fat bike? We have limited demos available for free on a first come, first serve basis. Reservations are required as these rides fill up fast and we regularly have waiting lists. Call us at 401.789.8664 to reserve.

When: Saturday October 15th, 2016 at 7pm

What to Bring: Fat bike, weather-appropriate clothing and a light
